How to Make a College Resume
How to Make a College ResumeIt's not easy to find how to make a college resume that will get you the job you want. There are no specific rules that any reputable college admissions officer will follow when they are reading the applications of students who have done their research and have done what they should do to get into college. The average person applying for a college will probably know nothing about the school they wish to attend. While this is good for the student, it can also be frustrating because there is no way to know what information is going to be important in getting accepted to a school or even where they need to put their emphasis. The general opinion among college admissions officers is that applying to as many schools as possible is a good way to improve your chances of getting into a school. Many students will have done this by contacting more than one school. The more schools that they contact, the higher their odds of being accepted to those schools. This may me an that the first college resume that you create after submitting the application and payment of the fees is going to have the highest priority. While some students may prefer to submit a few applications, it will often be the case that the student will have chosen to apply to multiple schools and will be using one school as a springboard for them to the next one. They may then begin a new application process and will use that particular school as the starting point for their new application. While this method is perfectly legitimate, it is usually best to get a better idea of how your resume will go over.Often, someone who has taken advanced placement courses and spent time in high school may be given special consideration based on their academic performance in those classes. Their resume can be used as the basis for a college resume. However, it may be that this particular student has not accomplished as much in the classwork as their peers. If this is the case, how to make a colle ge resume may depend upon how well the student performed in their classes. If the student performed very well in their coursework and advanced them to the next level of study, they may be in a good position to have their resume treated much more seriously than one who was slightly behind the curve in their academics. If the student does not come close to the levels of academic achievement that their classmates achieved, they may not stand a chance at having their resume considered. Many high school students will have received accolades for their academic achievements, either through teachers' reviews or scholarship money. If these people are writing an application for a college or university, they are likely to be more likely to choose the high school student's achievements over those of the graduate. This is because a graduate's achievements are not so close to the other graduate's accomplishments that the former does not need to show more effort to win the acceptance. High school s tudents may need to show more effort to maintain their scholarship status. In addition to sending in a resume to the colleges that are most interested in accepting them, there are also other ways to try to increase your chances of getting into college. You can shop around for scholarships that will give you financial aid. Some colleges offer scholarship awards at least part-time or full-time. If you don't qualify for some scholarships offered, don't give up hope.It is also wise to research the different types of financial aid that are available. Not all types of scholarships require you to be a U.S. citizen or to be a full-time student. So, be sure to compare loans and grants before you apply. Taking the time to make sure that you have the best options available will be worth the time spent to do so.

Be grateful for every moment ... - Jane Jackson Career
Be grateful for every moment ... - Jane Jackson Career Have you ever worked so hard for so long that youve forgotten what its like to relax and just enjoy life? Im sorry to admit it, but Ive been like that recently and Im the one who coaches people on taking care of themselves! The past year has been a whirlwind of coaching, training, writing, publishing, promoting, etc and its been relentless. My weekends were put on hold, people were put on hold, people who are very important to me were put on hold, my personal life was put on hold. This is not what life is all about. So today I took a mental health day. I slept in, I went to a Power Yoga class, I had a fresh detox juice and visited a friend for a chat. Then I decided my husband and I would have a picnic at Cremorne Point, by the water in Sydney this evening. I stayed away from my computer. The two and a half hours at Cremorne Point for our picnic by the water was magic. We watched the boats go by, enjoyed the setting sun and took photos of the beauty that surrounded us. I felt recharged and renewed. Relaxed and reinvigorated. What are you doing to take care of your self?

On Election Day - Remembering Tim Russerts Lessons for Careerists -
On Election Day - Remembering Tim Russerts Lessons for Careerists - On Election Day, I thought it would be fitting to re-run my post in memory of Tim Russert, host of NBCs Meet the Press and influential political commentator who died in June. As I watched and read coverage of Tim Russerts death, everyone who worked with him pointed out his generosity of spirit and willingness to mentor colleagues. In fact, the quote on one of the memorial programs for Tim Russert reads, No exercise is better for the human heart than reaching down to lift up another person. I heard him described as someone who pulled others up and then held them there, nurturing and celebrating their successes. My sense from the tributes memorializing him is that this quality, along with Russerts reported love of family, work and life, may have contributed as much to his success as his tenatious questioning of political figures. Ive written about being a connector and what a great aspiration it is to become a networker who networks generously and links people for their advantage. Similarly, this is a great time to think about the value of a mentor. Being a mentor can raise your career aspirations. People who see your kindness and generousity of spirit will help lift YOU to higher career heights. How much easier will it be to find people to offer recommendations and references if you are a strong mentor? How much more will you enjoy your work life if you really care about the people who work with you? For young people entering the working world for the first time, the lesson is to seek a mentor and to someday aspire to be one. Get to know the people who work with you. Care about their lives, their children, their sports teams. Connect because you care and people will respond. Your career and your life will be the better for it! A 12-Year Study of CEOs Reveals Their Most Important Habits
A 12-Year Study of CEOs Reveals Their Most Important Habits Being the CEO of a massive company is a surprisingly hard life. Sure, they make loads of moneyâ"an average of $12.1 million in 2017â"and have untold resources at their disposal, including other executives and employees under them. But a new report from Harvard Business Review detailing a major 12-year study of CEOs reveals that top executives are sorely lacking in one crucial area: time. CEOs are the internal and external faces of a company and, ultimately, responsible for everything that happens within the organization. They must engage âshareholders, customers, employees, the board, the media, government, community organizations, and more,â the report says. Given that, they could work nonstop and still have plenty left to do. So how do they best manage their schedule? The study tracked time allocation of 27 CEOsâ"two women and 25 menâ"for a quarter, or three months, each. Their companies, largely public, had an average annual revenue of $13.1 billion. Data looked at what chief executives do at work and outside of it, and researchers discussed results and areas of potential improvement with subjects. Here are important takeaways about the productivity secrets anyone can learn from head honchos across the US. Prize face-to-face interaction We all know the flood of work emails. CEOs arenât exempt from that pressure. The study found that email, though efficient in theory, is often ineffective and a time sink, but leaders have trouble avoiding their inbox. âCEOs are endlessly copied on FYI emails. They feel pressure to respond because ignoring an email seems rude,â HBR notes. The fix, for managers or anyone else, is relatively simple: Understand the difference between emails that donât need action and ones that do. Sending lots, especially at odd times, gives the wrong signal to staffers. Instead, emphasizing video conference and, even better, face-to-face communication is key. Itâs the âbest way for CEOs to exercise influence, learn whatâs really going on, and delegate to move forward the multiple agendas that must be advanced,â the report says. It also adds human connection that builds trust and unity. Make a clear agendaâ"and let others know it With so many issues coming to their desk, CEOs need to figure out where their priorities lie. âOur research finds that they should have an explicit personal agenda and that most do,â the report finds. Without one, their limited time will be overtaken by various factions, âand the most important work wonât get done.â An agenda can be as simple as a to-do list written on a Post-it, or a more elaborate setting of goals for a longer length of time. On average, CEOs studied spent 43% of time on items furthering their agendas, and felt better when devoting more time to those tasks. Itâs also important to update agendas as necessary to align with overall missions, and announce them to leadership and team members so everyone works cohesively. Trust and rely on the people directly under you The person at the top is only as good as their direct reports. Those underneath them âspan all the key elements of the business and offer CEOs the greatest opportunity for leverage,â the report says. âThe leadership team, working together, can be the glue that helps the CEO integrate the company and get the work done.â The research found that 46% of a CEOâs time was spent with one of more direct reports, and leaders were more likely to spend time with those employees when they had higher confidence in them. On the flip side, weaknesses in your closest team can create significant problems. CEOsâ ânumber-one regret was not setting high enough standards in selecting direct reports,â the research found. Leaders need to stay connected to departments across an organization to further goals. If theyâre siloed, theyâre setting themselves up for failure. Keep meetings short and efficient Many of us wish we could escape the barrage of meetings in corporate life. But for a CEO, whoâs responsible for everything, yet can only personally do so much, hashing out matters in a group setting is necessary to achieve solutions and dictate strategies. Leaders in the study spent an astounding 72% of their total work time in meetings. That doesnât mean theyâre always effective. Some meetings can drag on for no reason except habit, the research found. âCEOs need to regularly review which meetings are truly needed and which can be delegated, and to let go of ones they were accustomed to in previous roles,â HBR says. Leaders should also have an eye toward shortening meetings to make them more efficient. Many can simply be cut in half, leaving time for everything else you should confront. Separate work life from personal life A CEOâs job is all-consuming, as HBR points out. Theyâre constantly working, and could always do more. Leaders in the study worked an average 9.7 hours per weekday, 3.9 hours daily on weekends, and 2.4 hours daily during vacation. They totaled an average 62.5 hours of work a week. âThe CEOâs job is relentless,â HBR says. He or she has to spend time with every constituency in an organization, and canât hand off everything. Travel is essential. To combat that time crunch, CEOs canât wear themselves out by overpacking their schedule, tempting as it may be. âCEOs have to set limits so that they can preserve their health and their relationships with family and friends,â HBR finds. Leaders in the study concurred, sleeping on average 6.9 hours a night. Many exercised regularly, with fitness taking up about 45 minutes a day. âTo sustain the intensity of the job, CEOs need to trainâ"just as elite athletes do,â the report concludes. And leaders also spend off-time with their family and on hobbies. All of those things together help preserve your physical and mental health to prepare you for the next work hurdle. Without those, you can never be fully productive.

5 Jobs To Keep You At The Beach - Work It Daily
5 Jobs To Keep You At The Beach - Work It Daily Just get back from vacation on some tropical island? Well, welcome back to the cold! You love the seashore, and cannot imagine living anywhere else. If you are concerned that the necessity of earning a livelihood will mean leaving the ocean behind, you'll be happy to know there are careers tailor-made for beach lovers. Here are some of the best five beach jobs: 1. Scuba Diving Instructor If you love the water as much as you do the beach, this career may be ideal. Instructors teach both recreational divers and those wishing to become certified. Work venues include cruise ships, resorts, and dive centers. You may be required to operate boats, maintain equipment, and talk about marine life. It is essential that instructors be in optimum health and top physical condition and receive certification from an agency. Also know that risk will be your constant companion in this occupation. 2. Ocean Engineer Oceanographers and others who study marine environments and animals rely on state-of-the-art equipment to do their jobs effectively. Instruments must perform well and stand up to corrosive salt water, high-volume use, and all types of weather. In light of rapidly developing technologies, this is a career with a future. Coastal engineering, one aspect of the profession, addresses concerns like pollution and the effects on the marine ecosystem associated with coastal development. Some ocean engineers have also been developing ocean-cleaning gyres in order to remove plastic from the seas, which shows how you can use this career to advance conservation technologies. 3. Underwater Filmmaker If you have a way with a camera, are patient and not easily ruffled, and feel at home beneath the waves, consider a career in underwater photography. Basic requisites include both scuba and free diving ability, knowledge of marine environments, understanding of the changes in color as you dive deeper (and how to adjust for lack of light and altered hues at greater depths), and proper equipment. 4. Marine Biologist Practitioners of this profession are dedicated to studying marine mammals, fish, and ecosystems. Such study has the goal of determining risks to and protecting seaside and underwater environments. Marine biology colleges train students to join the ranks of those at the forefront of improving the quality of these ecosystems, preventing or reversing loss of habitat, maintaining health of sea creatures, and more. Marine biologists work in a variety of locations, including rehabilitation centers and government and private agencies. 5. Tour Boat Pilot Those cruise vessels that ply up and down the seacoast are a major attraction for tourists and seasonal residents. Locals also find these ships desirable locations for special events and a relaxing way to spend an hour or two or three. Pilots often double as tour guides, so if you enjoy operating a ship while sharing your affinity for the coast and everything in it, this is an ideal occupation. Whether you own your own vessel or work for a company, you are required to pass a licensing exam and have knowledge of vessel components and safety regulations. Now that youâve been introduced to five seashore careers, all that is necessary is to decide which one is right for you. Whatever your choice, youâll be literally mixing business with pleasure.
